I’m currently on a one year sabbatical from my work. Previously I was a Program Manager for the City of Roseville, California. Roseville is a dynamic and growing organization. In the Information Technology Department where I worked, I was part of creating a new culture of innovation and leadership. Working with technology provided continual opportunities for change and improvement.
My role included providing decision support, business analysis, and technology implementations for several lines of business in the City including Public Safety, Utilities, Economic Development, Parks and Recreation, Libraries, Public Works, and Development Services. Much of this work was done in the context of the Roseville GIS Program, which I was responsible for.
I also led a small, energetic, and creative team that developed business solutions and functioned as a catalyst for growth and change. We often did our best and most difficult work at the intersection of technology and organizational culture.
Another role was functioning as a liaison among stakeholders and helping align business needs with the capabilities delivered by technology. I helped teams see where they were and where they wanted to go, and then developed solutions to get them there.
I’m a firm believer that data tell stories and discovering them yields insights that help us solve problems, make better decisions, and create solutions. These insights also have the power to change perspectives and stimulate new thinking.
One of my technical specialties is geographic analysis. I use a technology called GIS, which is short for Geographic Information System. It’s a powerful tool for discovering the stories data tell as well as a means to visualize them. If you’re not familiar with it, take a look at my portfolio for examples of what it can do.
